Expo SDK 58: plan your upgrade around real user journeys
A successful mobile upgrade needs a dependency inventory, business checks and a practical recovery plan.
Expo published its migration guide for SDK 58, bringing iOS 27 support and React Native 0.88.
The KIMY perspective
The key question is not simply whether the application builds. Business apps often rely on document readers, payments, camera access or persistent sessions. Those features need to work together after an upgrade. We recommend a dedicated branch, an inventory of native dependencies and checks in a representative environment. A staged release and error monitoring can then reveal issues before they reach the whole installed user base. Define ownership of the release decision before beginning the migration.
What to check
- List native modules and the versions currently in use.
- Retest authentication, notifications and business workflows.
- Prepare staged distribution and a documented recovery procedure.
